NHL Rumors: Red Wings’ Moves Would Send Shock Waves Through NHL

Friday, Gregg Krupa of The Detroit News wrote an article stating it may be best if the Detroit Red Wings “stand pat” heading into the upcoming NHL season.

"Hoarding cash, continuing to develop their younger players and hoping the veterans step up is probably the best to which the Red Wings can aspire in 2012-13," Krupa wrote.

To this, I could not disagree more. This is a defeatist, post-Nick Lidstrom reeling mentality, to say the least.

Yes, it will be difficult to replace ironclad defenseman Nick Lidstrom’s leadership and Hall of Fame play. After all, Lidstrom was arguably the type of exciting defenseman that comes along but once in a lifetime.

Yes, the Red Wings lost out on the Zach Parise and Ryan Suter sweepstakes, when they both signed with the Minnesota Wild, according to Yahoo! Sports.

But who cares? Big deal. Let Parise and Suter press on with their Sadie Hawkins, two-peas-in-a-pod selves.

This would not be the first time highly prized free agents decided the Red Wings was not for them.

And it will not be the last.

But to say the Red Wings should slip their tails ...
