Nick Young is now an Adidas athlete because Nike seemed too exclusive.
The Los Angeles Lakers guard signed a contract with Adidas at the beginning of December after wearing Nikes since his college days, per Nick DePaula of Nice Kicks. Young told Zac Dubasik of Sole Collector the reason why he chose Adidas is because Nike is focused around the NBA's biggest stars.
“Nike is really only three people. Kobe [Bryant], [Kevin] Durant and LeBron [James],” Young said. “I like the concept of how Adidas adds everybody in their shoe commercial. The way Adidas is going and the waves they’ve got, I was getting on board.”
Young said one of the things that influenced his decision was superstar rapper Kanye West, who signed with Adidas for $10 million in 2013. The man known as Swaggy P wore a pair of West's Yeezy Boost 750s in the first half of the Lakers' Jan. 1 game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
