Walking Away: Philadelphia Flyers Place Matt Walker on Waivers

This comes as a real shock to many, but for anybody who is in-the-know, they saw this coming.

For weeks now, the Flyers have been rumored to be in the market for a forward, and now it is just becoming more evident.

According to Bob McKenzie of TSN, Walker has been waived.

With Walker off the books, it saves the Flyers another $1.7 million in cap space, which is nothing to sneeze at.

There could be two reasons, and two reasons only for a move like this; 1. The Flyers are on the verge of a big trade/acquisition or 2. The Flyers are about to give Ville Leino his well-earned extension.

The Flyers now have even more cap space to do what they will at the February 28 trade deadline. Many believed they would keep him around as further depth, but there are other guys in the system who could step up in the wake of an injury.

Either way, Paul Holmgren is up to something, and I don't think it will be much longer before we all find out.

It's sad to see Matt walker go, he never had much of a chance to prove himself, being riddled with injuries, but that is the business.
