Ryan Malone Pleads No Contest to DUI Charges

Former Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Malone pleaded no contest Tuesday to a driving under the influence charge stemming from an April incident.

The 34-year-old winger was arrested and charged with DUI as well as cocaine possession four months ago, per Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times.

According to Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times, Malone has agreed to take part in a pre-trial intervention program:



Smith is also reporting that Malone's decision will result in the cocaine possession charge being dropped:



While Malone agreed to the intervention program, he claimed to be surprised when officer Andrew Visser found cocaine in his back pocket during the April traffic stop, according to Smith.

Malone, 34, waived his Miranda rights and told Visser he didn't know where the 1.3 grams of cocaine came from, according to discovery documents the Tampa Bay Times received Tuesday through a public records request.
