For a team that's fighting for their playoff lives, the Philadelphia Flyers sure are not playing like one.
There's a disturbing trend that has been rearing its ugly head with the Philadelphia Flyers since the Chicago Blackhawks took victory laps around the Wells Fargo Center ice, the Stanley Cup held high, in June 2010: For whatever reason, the Flyers seem incapable of finishing games.
Moreover, the games in which this team puts forth a full 60-minute effort have become few and far between. The turning point for this season came on March 7 against the Pittsburgh Penguins—a disastrous 5-4 collapse in which they led their rivals to the west 4-1 after the first period. It was just the latest in a long line of sublime losses for this team on the brink of missing the playoffs.
After 30 games in this abbreviated season, the Flyers have accumulated just 27 points and have sunk to 14th in the Eastern Conference. Since their meltdown against the Penguins, the Flyers have garnered just four additional points.
