NHL Skills Competition Video: Watch Zdeno Chara Win Hardest Shot, Set New Record

Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara won his fifth straight hardest-shot title at the 2012 NHL Skills Challenge on Saturday night with a blast clocked at 107 mph in the final heat.

Chara beat Nashville Predators star defenseman Shea Weber in the final. Chara set a new hardest-shot record with a 108.8 mph missile in the first heat. Weber lost to Chara in last year's final as well.

The Bruins captain set a record last season with a shot clocked at 105.9 mph, but a new stick this year might have been the reason for the extra power he was able to generate to set a new record.

Former Calgary Flames defenseman Al MacInnis has won the hardest-shot competition a record seven times. With Chara's recent dominance in the event, there's no reason to think he cannot tie or break MacInnis' record in a couple years.

Chara is once again having a spectacular season on defense for the Bruins. He will likely be nominated for the Norris Trophy again and is so important to Boston's success at both ends of the ice.

He has scored seven goals with 20 assists this season for the Bruins.
