NHL Rumors: Latest Free-Agency Buzz from Around League

Rumors will turn into reality when fireworks subside and the 2013 NHL free-agency period starts on July 5.

Teams will be sure to form their free-agency blueprints around dethroning the defending champion Chicago Blackhawks.

Here’s the latest buzz from around the league.

 

Danny Briere



ESPN reported earlier this month that the Philadelphia Flyers would buy out Daniel Briere’s contract. According to the report, Philly will save $6.5 million in salary cap room in the process.

According to John Vogl of The Buffalo News, the Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres and Phoenix Coyotes are the most likely teams to reel in Briere.



Comcast SportsNet’s Tim Panaccio reported that far more than those four teams have their eye on Briere.



The 35-year-old center scored six goals and delivered 10 assists this past season. He isn’t the offensive performer he once was, but Briere’s leadership will still provide value to whichever locker room he moves into next year.
