NHL Buzz: New Jersey Devils and Ilya Kovalchuk Hit Another Road Block

For all those fans who thought the Ilya Kovalchuk saga was finally coming to an end, you're wrong. Once again the Devils and Kovalchuk hit a road block with the NHL. Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the NHL has seen the framework of a new contract and has told the Devils that they would not approve it.


The Devils and Kovalchuk will go back to the drawing board once again. The good news for Devils fans is that Will DePaoli of Inside Pittsburgh Sports is reporting that Kovalchuk has not had talks with any other team and is focused on getting a deal done with the Devils.

Dennis Bernstein of thefourthperiod is reporting the LA Kings are still in on Willie Mitchell but they are not the front-runners.

Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Owen Nolan has been skating with some of the San Jose Sharks players. He also notes that he would like to play two more years.

The Edmonton Oilers are still trying to move Sheldon Souray, but there isn't a big market for him right now.
