NHL Buzz: Devils and Kovalchuk Head Back to the Drawing Board

According to Tom Gulitti of Fire and Ice, the New Jersey Devils and Ilya Kovalchuk will go back to the drawing board once again. Gulitti also notes that Devils GM Lou Lamoriello is not frustrated with this process at all.

Yesterday, I asked Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo! Sports if he thought Kovalchuk going to the KHL is more of an option now that his second contract has been denied. He replied, "I think it's more of an option now than it was yesterday."

I still think he will remain a Devil, however, if the Devils don't get something done soon, he could bolt to the KHL.

Leafs head coach Ron Wilson is expected to meet with Tomas Kaberle in the next few days to see how he really feels. If Kaberle is indeed unhappy with Wilson, you could see a trade in the future.


Contract talks with Marc Staal and the Rangers are almost dead. Staal is hoping for an offer sheet, so he could either get the contract he wants from the Rangers or get it elsewhere.
