Marc Staal, New York Rangers Agree To Five-Year Deal

According to a number of reports on Wednesday morning, the New York Rangers have signed 23-year-old defenseman Marc Staal to a five-year contract worth $19.875 million; the cap number is $3.975M per season.

Staal, the 12th overall pick in the 2005 draft, has 52 points (13 G, 39 A) and 150 penalty minutes in 244 career NHL games. He skated in all 82 games last year, posting career highs in points (27), goals (eight) and assists (19) while averaging over 23 minutes on the ice per night. He was a restricted free agent.
