Jimmy Howard left Detroit's January 10 game vs. Washington with a groin injury and has been diagnosed with a slight tear. Howard has been placed on injured reserve. He's expected to miss 2-4 weeks with the injury.

Goaltender Jimmy Howard will undergo another medical test to determine the severity of the groin injury he suffered Saturday night in Washington. Howard underwent an MRI Sunday afternoon and general manager Ken Holland told MLive in a text message that team doctors want an ultrasound performed Monday "so we have a better read on his injury.
