Hurricanes Goalie Cam Ward Gets Mask Knocked Off by Shot, Laughs It Off

January 13th, 2016 by Kyle Newport Leave a reply »

Although his mask may not have stayed on throughout the duration of the play, Carolina Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward has to be thankful he wore such a protective piece of headwear during Tuesday night's game against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins.

In the first period, Penguins right wing Phil Kessel put a shot on net that hit Ward square in the mask when the goalie couldn't get his glove up in time. The shot managed to pop the mask right off Ward's head.

Fortunately, the Hurricanes netminder was fine and was able to just laugh off the unusual sequence:

Ward recorded 23 saves in a 3-2 overtime victory.
