Evgeni Malkin Injury: Updates on Penguins Star’s Status and Return

Evgeni Malkin has generally been a model of consistency for the Pittsburgh Penguins, missing only a small handful of games and delivering night-in and night-out. However, he will be sidelined for the time being after suffering a lower-body injury against the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

Malkin Listed As Day-to-Day Monday, March, 16 Katie Strang of ESPN reported that Malkin will miss one to two weeks as he recovers from a lower-body injury.

Earlier, the Penguins listed Malkin as day-to-day and noted he may join the team later on its road trip.

On March 15, Malkin did not play, but head coach Mike Johnston "is hopeful Malkin isn't anything long-term," reported Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, though Johnston did not provide any further details.

The Penguins previously noted that Malkin skated off on his own power, which was encouraging since Sidney Crosby did not play in the game due to an undisclosed illness.
