Early 2013 NHL Season Calder Trophy Watch

One of the greatest feelings in the world for an NHL general manager, I can imagine, is for a top draft pick to actually pan out in the league.

Last season, there was a tremendous, tightly contested battle for the Calder Trophy, between Adam Henrique, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Gabriel Landeskog.

This year, at least up to this point, it's a five-man race for the league's top rookie.

In Montreal, Alex Galchenyuk is bringing back the play making and firepower that Canadiens fans haven't seen in sometime, and that they're desperately seeking in a top-six forward. His name is definitely in the consideration, but he's not in the top-three, and neither is Justin Schultz of the Edmonton Oilers despite phenomenal play. The young defenseman was straight-up lights out for the Oklahoma City Barons, with 48 points in 34 games during the lockout, but alas, he can't crack the top-trio as well.

So, which three guys would be the Calder Finalists if the season ended right now? Watch to find out, and don't forget to tweet me at BR0Leary with your selection, or leave it in the comments below.
