Detroit Red Wings Lose Darren Helm to Wrist Injury

The Detroit Red Wings will be without forward Darren Helm for tonight's game against the Phoenix Coyotes.

Helm suffered a wrist injury during Saturday's game against the Nashville Predators.

The extent of the injury isn't clear at this time, however, Detroit head coach Mike Babcock did say that Helm sitting out tonight will not be decided until after the morning skate, suggesting that the injury may not be that severe.

Grand Rapids Griffins forward Kris Newbury has been called up to replace Helm in tonight's lineup.

Along with Kris Draper and Patrick Eaves, Helm has been a part of Detroit's most effective line over the past 15 games.

The trio have provided secondary scoring, using their collective speed to overwhelm opponents, and are all regulars on the penalty kill, which has stopped 26 of the last 27 power plays against.

Darren Helm joins a growing list of regular players sidelined with injuries.

Detroit is already without Andreas Lilja, Johan Franzen, Valtteri Filppula, Niklas Kronwall, Jason Williams, and Dan Cleary.
