Detroit Red Wings Look to Final 17 Games: Can Detroit Hold on To Second?

Detroit was once holding on to the Central Division and second in the conference very comfortably.

The Wings now only have a three-point edge on the very hot San Jose Sharks team, and a nine-point cushion on the surging Chicago Blackhawks.

Though the nine-point lead in the Central is still very comfortable, it is still something to think about because not too long ago, the Blackhawks were just fighting to get into the top eight of the conference.

With a six-game winning streak and a 7-1-2 record over their last 10 games, the Blackhawks have come back with a vengeance and are eying the Wings for the top spot in the division.

The Sharks are also hot, winning eight straight, including last night's 3-1 in over Detroit and have climbed within three points of the Wings in the conference.

Is this a cause for concern? Yes and no.

The Wings are healthy now and have looked better the recent weeks than they did prior. They haven't been blown out in any fashion like they had a problem of doing prior to their run of 7-3-1.
