Canucks Planning “Something Special” For Bure: Jersey Retirement/Ring Of Honour?

Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis appeared in-studio on the Pratt and Taylor Show on the TEAM 1040 and spilled the beans that “something special” is planned for the Russian Rocket, Pavel Bure.

“We are going to do something special, not [going to] tell you what it is,” said Gillis.

“Pavel [Bure] is among the number of people that we are actively discussing [and] considering, in some form or another. I’m not going to tell you what it is, but he’s definitely part of that group.”

The segment began when Don Taylor voiced his opinion that if Markus Naslund’s jersey went up, Pavel Bure’s should as well, because he “captured the imagination of the city.”

Gillis would respond by basically banging the drum of Markus Naslund over Bure, so don’t expect a jersey retirement.

Ring of Honour seems likely, but will it happen this year?

There are two Ring of Honour dates left (January 24 and March 14) and there have been no indications from the Canucks regarding who they could be.
