Blackhawks’ Andrew Shaw Auctioning Stitches for Charity in Awesome Hockey Move

August 6th, 2013 by Tristan Thornburgh Leave a reply »

Back in the final game of the Stanley Cup playoffs, Chicago Blackhawks centre Andrew Shaw took a puck to the face in the first period that gave him a huge gash and left him sprawled on the ice.

Shaw received stitches and returned to the game in the second period to help lead the Blackhawks to a dramatic victory to take the Stanley Cup over the Boston Bruins.

Shaw is continuing to ride the wave of Cup excitement by auctioning off the stitches he received on his face, which will come with a framed, signed photo. All of the profits will go to the V Foundation for cancer research.

While the injury is not pleasant to remember (warning: not for the squeamish), it's a great cause and the definition of making lemonade out of lemons. Get ready to start bidding, Blackhawks fans.

Hat tip to CBS Sports on the find.
