Alex Ovechkin Suspended for Two Games

The NHL announced today that Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals has been suspended for two games for his hit on Chicago Blackhawk Brian Campbell. The hit occurred during Sunday's nationally televised game between the Capitals and the Blackhawks. The game, which turned out to be a great comeback by the Capitals, ended up being overshadowed by Ovechkin's ejection.

At first Ovi was given a five minute penalty for his hit from behind but the refs got together and decided to toss Ovechkin from the game. This was Ovechkin's second suspension of the season after being suspended in late November.

The result of the hit may have played a part in Colin Campbell’s ruling. Brian Campbell ended up suffering a broken collarbone and broken ribs as a result of the hit. He may end up missing the rest of the season including the playoffs which will have a big hit on the Blackhawks chances of making it to the Stanley Cup Finals.
