2010 NHL Draft: Five Players on the Detroit Red Wings Radar

Apparently, the Detroit Red Wings feel the roster they had last season is exactly what they need next season as long as it stays healthy. All of the major moves made by the Red Wings since the end of the season have been re-signings of impending unrestricted free agents. Beginning with captain Nicklas Lidstrom, the Wings have made sure to keep particular 2009-10 Red Wings in the fold; Tomas Holmstrom and Todd Bertuzzi being the two other signings. While some question Detroit's decision to stick with aging, possibly declining veterans, others note that the Wings won Stanley Cups in 2002 and 2008 with largely veteran players. Whether or not the moves are sound doesn't negate the fact that new blood is a must for any team, including the Red Wings. In a few days, they'll have a chance to infuse their organization with young talent that hopefully will step up to become regular Red Wing contributors before long. Though stars Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk are still young enough—at 29 and 30 respectively—to carry the team offensively for the next few years, the Wings would do well to make sure they've got more depth at center in the minors.
