Oklahoma City Thunder star point guard Russell Westbrook dropped 28 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists in Sunday's 101-92 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
In doing so, he emerged as the first player to post five straight triple-doubles since Michael Jordan did so in 1989, per ESPN Stats & Info. Jordan added two more to his streak and finished with seven consecutive.
Westbrook is one of just four players to reach such an achievement—joining all-time greats such as Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson.
Sunday was also Westbrook's 10th triple-double of the season. He needed only 21 games to reach double digits in the category, second-quickest in NBA history to Robertson's 12 games.
On an interesting side note, he became the first player with 20 points and 10 turnovers in a triple-double effort since Charles Barkley in 1986-87.
Westbrook's five-game triple-double streak happens to coincide with Oklahoma City's five-game winning streak. Unfortunately, each of the contests came against teams with losing records at the time of the game.
