Sleeper Picks for NBA Rookie of the Year

Anthony Davis seems like such a lock for NBA Rookie of the Year that anyone else automatically becomes a "surprise" pick at this point.

However, let's not discount that there are some other really great fits out there for first-timers and their new teams. The opportunity to carry an offense, surprisingly improve a franchise or take the league by storm does not simply rest with Davis alone.

As NBA assistant editors Ethan Norof and Joel C. Cordes point out, there are at least half a dozen other "dark horse" candidates who may be in the right situations for success.

No one will be surprised if Anthony Davis wins Rookie of the Year, but history shows that there are plenty of No. 1 picks who were plenty solid in their first season but went on to lose that trophy to an upstart.
