Sevyn to Sing 76ers National Anthem in ‘We Matter’ Jersey

The Philadelphia 76ers announced Saturday they have invited Sevyn Streeter back to sing the national anthem. 

Bleacher Report's Howard Beck shared statements from the team and Streeter:



Streeter will perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" before Philadelphia's Dec. 16 game against the Los Angeles Lakers. She will also be allowed to wear a jersey bearing the phrase "We Matter."

She was originally supposed to sing prior to the Sixers' season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Oct. 26, but the team prevented her from doing so:



CBS Philly's Jan Carabeo reported the contract Streeter signed with Philadelphia stipulated she couldn't make political statements during her performance. Streeter also reportedly declined to exchange her jersey with a shirt provided by the team.

Sixers guard Gerald Henderson was critical of the team's decision, per ESPN.com's Ohm Youngmisuk:
