Report: Former NBA Player Lorenzen Wright Found Dead in Memphis

Former NBA player Lorenzen Wright was found dead in Memphis today.

Curtis Wright, Lorenzen’s uncle, broke the news when he told the Associated Press. The family issued this statement to the public:

“Lorenzen’s family has come together to mourn his loss and honor his legacy. We appreciate your thoughts, prayers and condolences as they are comforting at this very difficult time. Additionally, we ask that you please respect our privacy as we try to cope with his sudden loss.”

The 34-year-old had played 13 seasons in the NBA and last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2008-09 season.

Wright was supposed to fly out of town on July 18, but was never heard back as the family filed a missing report on the 22.

He averaged eight points and six assists in his career and played with teams like the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks, and the Sacramento Kings.

Penny Hardaway, who played in Memphis about two years before Wright did, was shocked and sad about the breaking news.
