Orlando Magic Week 21: Dwight Howard Takes It Easy as the Team Stands Up

Dwight Howard has spent the majority of the season leading Orlando and carrying the brunt of the workload. Coach Stan Van Gundy has decided to make that load lighter as the post-season approaches, giving more playing time to the deep Magic bench. The plan has been working for Orlando, as the team has won 10 of their last 11 games. The Magic have cruised to a 49-21 record and became the third team in the NBA to clinch a playoff berth. On Wednesday night Orlando welcomed the San Antonio Spurs to town. The Magic had no trouble with the Spurs, handing them a 110-84 loss. For the better part of the fourth quarter, the Orlando starting five sat on the bench, arm-in-arm, laughing as the bottom of the bench managed to secure the hefty Magic lead. Vince Carter led the team with 24 points and a season high eight assists. Rashard Lewis chipped in with 20 as Dwight Howard had only nine in his 24 minutes. Richard Jefferson scored 20 for the Spurs while grabbing six boards but the big story for San Antonio was Tim Duncan. In 25 minutes, Duncan was held to 1-10 shooting from the field and a paltry five points. From there it was off to Miami to face off with the Heat on the following night. ...
