Orlando Magic Hire Jacque Vaughn as Head Coach

As expected when I spoke of the challenges the new Magic head coach would face, Jacque Vaughn was the leading candidate for the job.

Now the job is his, according to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel. 

What does Vaughn bring to the table?

First off, he had a long playing career as a point guard, and it's a well-accepted fact that point guards generally make the best coaches.  After all, they are referred to as floor generals for a reason.  A good point guard allows a coach to relax, knowing the ball is in good hands.  That experience will serve Vaughn well in Orlando.

Vaughn also brings experience to the table as an assistant coach.  With the San Antonio Spurs, he was responsible for the same duties as the top three assistant coaches, though he was not allowed to sit on the bench due to NBA rules which only allow three assistant coaches on the bench.

Magic GM Rob Hennigan spent time with Vaughn during their time together in San Antonio, so in some respects many could have seen this move coming from a mile away.
