NBA Primetime ranks the best five sophomores in the league today and explains why each deserves to be placed on top.

 

1. Brooke Lopez (C, NJN)

Hands down, Brooke Lopez is the best sophomore in the NBA today. Averaging 19.3 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 2.2 BPG, and 1.7 APG on 49.5 percent field goal shooting, Lopez has quickly emerged as one of the most elite big men in the league. Although he is playing for a lousy New Jersey Nets (2-20) squad, Lopez should be able to turn his organization's bad luck around within the next few seasons, especially with the amount of money the Nets have to spend during the offseason.

 

2. Marc Gasol (C, MEM)

In the first 21 games of the season, Marc Gasol has shown his true potential, posting a career-high 14.4 PPG, 9.7 RPG, 1.6 BPG, 2.6 APG, and 1.1 SPG on a fourth league best 60.1 shooting percentage. With eight double-doubles on the season, Gasol is only 12 away from breaking his rookie season record of 19.
