NBA Owners Who Care More About Money Than Wins

Capitalism is a beautiful thing in the NBA. Huge money is made every season by franchises, players and cities.

Professional basketball is an avenue for the wealthy to get wealthier, and there is nothing wrong with that. Most NBA owners view the league as a means of profit, and sometimes that comes at the expense of wins.

This has come to the light recently with the moves made by teams like the Memphis Grizzlies, who moved Rudy Gay to save money in the long run. They downgraded an important position in the midst of a season in which they were a strong Western Conference contender.

Many, like Andrew Bogut, see that as sacrificing wins for cost efficiency. It is an obvious play for a lot of franchises: cut loose an impending big contract for smaller pieces and try to make up the production. The NBA doesn't work that way, and time and time again, big-money players win.

It is becoming more and more apparent that skimping on costs is sacrificing wins; there is no other way around it.
