After a long string of semi-anemic showings, the NBA Dunk Contest finally returned to prominence when Minnesota Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine and Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon, both just 20 years old, turned in sensational Saturday night performances.

So spectacularly competitive was the matchup, it elicited instant comparisons to one of history's best—1988's Michael Jordan vs. Dominique Wilkins.

Perhaps in 28 years, NBA fans will reflect on 2016's LaVine vs. Gordon the same way.

For those who remain unconvinced, or even those who want to relive the epic battle, the NBA compiled a mashup video demonstrating the similar qualities of both pairs' awesome athleticism.

The electrifying challenger? The astounding leap from the charity stripe? The champion defending his title? It's all there, and it's all unbelievable.

Suffice it to say that the future of All-Star weekend's beloved event is very bright.
