Dallas Mavericks guard Monta Ellis is reportedly likely to be on the trade block if he opts to pick up the final year of his contract.

Report: Mavs "Likely" to Try Ellis Trade If He Opts In Tuesday, June 23 Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com has some inside information about Ellis' future in Dallas.    

"I'm hearing that Mavs are likely to try to move Monta Ellis in trade if he opts in for final season of contract before tomorrow's deadline," he wrote on Twitter.

The figurative ball is in Ellis' court. If he gets out of his final season with Dallas on Wednesday's deadline to decide, he can test the free-agent waters and perhaps secure a better deal elsewhere. The salary-cap increase slated for 2016-17 will have most veterans like Ellis trying the open market if they're given the chance.

Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News reported that Ellis is "likely to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Dallas Mavericks, a source said. Not 100-percent, but close."
