Mavs’ Richard Jefferson Assessed a Flagrant-1 for Shoving Rockets’ Trevor Ariza

Playoff basketball typically results in very physical games, but Dallas Mavericks veteran Richard Jefferson was deemed to have gone too far with the physicality in Game 1 of his team's opening-round series against the Houston Rockets.

After the Rockets beat the Mavericks defense late in the second quarter, Jefferson refused to concede an easy basket. Instead of letting Houston's Trevor Ariza lay the ball in, Jefferson delivered a hard shove from behind.

The referees went to the monitor and ruled that Jefferson made unnecessary contact. Therefore, he was given a flagrant-1 foul.

Ariza went on to make the ensuing free throws.
