Erik Spoelstra Goes All-out in Signaling for Hassan Whiteside to Set Screen

April 11th, 2015 by Jake Silver Leave a reply »

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra was not pleased to see center Hassan Whiteside dawdling around instead of setting a screen for Dwyane Wade against the Toronto Raptors Saturday.

Since the most effective screens tend to catch the opponent off guard, Spoelstra found himself in a tricky situation—he did not want to alert the defending Terrence Ross of the play.

What resulted was what shall be known as the "fly-swatter." Spoelstra flailed and kicked to try to get Whiteside's attention.

Eventually Wade lost patience, drove the lane and lost the ball on a bad pass.

Coach Spo may find a few new gray hairs tomorrow.
