Dallas Mavericks’ Poor Performance Highlights Bleak Dallas Sports Landscape

As though Dallas sports fans' hopes have not quite deflated enough already, the San Antonio Spurs' 92-89 victory over the Mavericks to extend their series lead to 3-1 might have been the final pin prick to send such fans swirling around the room like a limp balloon.

Several fans of local teams have voiced their utter dejection at having their championship dreams shot down yet again. Whether you have lived in Dallas your whole life, you just moved here and are trying to become enveloped in the sports scene, or you find yourself in the unique position of watching season after season of implosions during the playoffs (or the regular season in the Rangers case), the Mavericks' performance Sunday night served as a reminder of just how bleak the landscape appears for most franchises.

One native Texan who now attends college in St. Louis e-mailed his concerns in the form of a long diatribe about his shattered expectations.

"No Dallas professional sports franchise will win a championship until my children have children, and even that seems too soon," said Neil DuRoss, a junior at Saint Louis University.
