According to Cleveland.com's Eric Heisig, former Ohio State Buckeyes and Arizona Cardinals running back Chris "Beanie" Wells has been named in court documents as the target of an extortion case involving two men from Akron, Ohio.
The men, Franklin Conley and Patrick Griffin, reportedly began threatening Wells' life in February 2015 after they "lost money to a Mexican drug dealer they met through Wells' brother," per Heisig.
Court filings also reportedly indicate that Conley and Griffin believed they "had a chance at recouping their losses from the drug deal and called and texted him threats demanding between $65,000 and $175,000."
According to Heisig, the original criminal complaint said Conley and Griffin sent a text message to Wells saying they would "go to war" to get their money back.
Although Wells reportedly told Cleveland.com that he's not a party to the case, Heisig cited "multiple sources" who said that he is, in fact, the victim named in the court documents.
