Washington 4, Philadelphia 1 (Washington leads series 2-0) 

The Washington Capitals took a commanding 2-0 series lead over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night at the Verizon Center. 

John Carlson, Jason Chimera, Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom all scored for the hosts and Braden Holtby stopped 41 shots in the Washington net. 

Carlson scored his second goal of the series in the first period as he sent a shot through a wall of players past Philadelphia netminder Steve Mason. 

Mason was at the center of Washington's second tally as he let Chimera's clearance from the middle of the ice slide through his legs. 

Philadelphia pulled within a goal midway through the second period by way of a Jakub Voracek goal, but that was the only shot that beat Holtby over 60 minutes. 

Ovechkin scored on a slapshot near the end of the second and Backstrom finished off the win late in the third with a blast from the right side of the ice. 

The two sides will be back in action on Monday for Game 3 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
