Zdeno Chara Re-Signs With Bruins For Seven More Seasons

Boston Bruins captain and all-star defenseman Zdeno Chara has signed a new seven-year contract, keeping him in a Bruins uniform until he is 40 years old, according to The Boston Globe.

The Bruins announced the deal Saturday morning in the Czech Republic capital of Prague, where the B's open their 2011 season today at noon vs. Phoenix. .

Earlier this week, the Bruins signed veteran center Patrice Bergeron to a three-year contract extension. Both Chara and Bergeron's current contracts were set to expire after this season.

Chara is a truly unique talent—he is the tallest man ever in the NHL, standing 6'9".

He is a very physical player, great at checking, and almost impossible to muscle with. He also possesses several offensive skills, highlighted by his thunderous slap shot, which is one of the hardest in the NHL and has been clocked at over 100 mph.

Chara is a leader on and off the ice for the Bruins, doing great work in the Boston community.
