The Minnesota Wild's hopes of a deep playoff run have taken a significant hit, as star forward Zach Parise is on the shelf with a herniated disc. It is uncertain when he will be able to return to action.

Back Surgery an Option for Parise

Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reported Parise could undergo season-ending surgery on the herniated disc in his back:
According to multiple sources, Parise was at the Mayo Clinic seeing a spine specialist Monday. Now being determined is whether Parise needs season-ending microdiscectomy surgery to relieve pressure on the spinal nerve column.
Parise is first trying physical therapy to see if that improves the situation. Still, the Wild’s all-time leading playoff scorer, with 25 points in 28 games, could very well miss the postseason.

The Wild announced that Parise will miss the first two games of the series against the Dallas Stars and is out indefinitely.
