Tampa Bay Lightning didn't just get an ex-NHLer as a GM.

They didn't get a person just freshly let go from his most recent organization.

They got Steve Yzerman.

A hero.

An icon.

Maybe even a legend? Of course he is.

He made Hockeytown what it is.

Steve Yzerman, longest serving captain in NHL history, signed a 5-year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning to make him their General Manager.

Yzerman brings over much more than hockey knowledge. He brings over four Cup rings (one as an exec), Hall of Fame status, and the know how of how to build a winning team (search up "Vancouver Olympics 2010" on Google).

His mind as an executive was molded by, arguably, the best general manger in the past 12 years, Ken Holland.

Tampa Bay not only now has Steve Yzerman as a GM, but a Ken Holland Jr.

Tampa Bay is now embarking into the next best five years of their lives.

Detroit hasn't lost a former Detroit Red Wing. Detroit lost the former Detroit Red Wing.
