Wish This Were True: Rumor Says New York Rangers GM Sather Retiring

Rick Carpiniello of the Journal News has passed along a bit of information that, if true, should make a lot of Ranger fans very happy—Glen Sather will retire at the end of this season.

This is what Carp actually wrote:

Heard this last night, checked around a little, didn’t find any evidence that it’s true: Glen Sather will retire after this season.

The source claims to have knowledge of this, from a better source. I’m not sure if I believe it, and I’m certainly not sure Sather would be sharing such info with some people, and not with the people I asked. So I’m very skeptical.

If only this were true, but unfortunately this sounds like a pure rumor. Just like Carp said, if he really were retiring I doubt that he’d tell too many people. However, Sather is closing in on 70 years old, he’s 66 and will by 67 by the start of next season, so he does have to retire soon. With fans literally picketing outside of The Garden against him, now is as good a time as any.
