Why Jussi Jokinen Joining the Detroit Red Wings Makes Sense

Jussi Jokinen is arguably one of the greatest shootout performers in the league. He is also a skilled guy currently playing on Carolina's top line. Carolina is in the basement of the Eastern Conference, and while they have been winning as of late, they are one of the few clear sellers at the deadline.

Detroit is a team playing significantly below par and are in a situation where missing the playoffs is simply not an option. In my opinion, this is a no brain move that shouldn't be to difficult or expensive to pull off.

The main argument for Detroit acquiring Jokinen is the shootout. Detroit has lost at least seven shootouts this year. If they had won half of those they would currently be in the playoffs. It's gotten to the point that whenever I'm watching a Wings game, I'm praying for the win in the five minute overtime period because I know they have no chance in the shootout. Jokinen would give Detroit a second decent shooter to compliment Datsyuk.

In terms of what Carolina would receive in the trade, a second and fourth round draft pick would likely be sufficient.
