New York Islander fans can rejoice. The team is staying in New York and not moving to Kansas City, Missouri or Quebec. What exactly does the move to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn mean for the New York Islanders?
Like myself, the reaction from Islanders fans seems to be the same. We wanted the team in Uniondale, in Nassau County. We liked it that games were easily accessible by hopping on to Hempstead Turnpike and driving down to the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum to see the Islanders play.
Unfortunately, Islanders management and Nassau County Government felt they had explored all possible options for keeping the team in Nassau County and moved a different direction.
That direction heads west towards Brooklyn.
The team will relocate to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn once the lease for the Nassau Coliseum expires in 2015. If you ask most Islanders fans what they think of the move to Brooklyn, the reaction is similar. While they would much rather have the team in Long Island, a trip to Brooklyn is much more feasible than a trip to Quebec or Kansas City.
