Washington Capitals 5, Buffalo Sabres 4    Final (Overtime)


The Washington Capitals escaped Buffalo with two big points in the standings courtesy of two-goal performances by both Alex Ovechkin and Mike Green. Ovechkin added a pair of assists for a four-point night.

The Buffalo Sabres played a tough game and came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game on three different occasions. Cody Hodgson scored twice for Buffalo while Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis each added two assists.

Ovechkin started fast, scoring twice in 53 seconds in the game's first five minutes.

The Sabres never quit and slowly got back into the game. Ted Nolan's team provided plenty of offense, managing 27 shots on goal including 13 in the third period.

The Capitals power play clicked, going 2-of-3 tonight after scoring just once in their last nine contests.

Braden Holtby made 23 saves to earn the win for Washington.
