Toronto Maple Leafs Trade Francois Beauchemin for Joffrey Lupul

Trade: Francois Beauchemin traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Anaheim Ducks for Joffrey Lupul, Jake Gardiner and a conditional fourth round draft pick in the 2013 Entry Draft.

Anaheim: Beauchemin is going back to the organization where he had the most success in his NHL career.  He won a Stanley Cup with Anaheim and scored 21 goals and 88 points over the 234 games he played with the Ducks.

Beauchemin does not have the elite offensive skills of a top fantasy defensemen but provides consistent scoring as a depth defenseman. He has struggled this season and was on pace for career low in points but who hasn’t struggled playing for Toronto this season. Now that he is on a better team he will get back on track, which is averaging 25 to 30 points a season. 

Beauchemin will take some even strength ice time away from Cam Fowler, but don’t expect him to bump Fowler off the powerplay. Bringing Beauchemin back should solidify the Ducks' defense, which has not been the same since Scott Niedermayer retired.
