According to a recent report, talks are commencing on the potential sale of the Maple Leafs. The deal is reported to be over $1 billion total, closing in on the $1.3 billion area and would involve the Teacher's Pension Plan selling their sports assets to Rogers Communications.
According to unnamed sources in the report, the deal would include the sale of the Maple Leafs, their minor league affiliate the Marlies, the NBA Toronto Raptors and the major league soccer franchise the Toronto FC.
The addition of all four MLSE owned teams to Rogers would make it one of the more powerful sports enterprises in North America, adding to the already Rogers-owned Toronto Blue Jays.
This is potentially huge news for Leaf fans and sports fans in general. Long considered one of the most untouchable franchises in North American sports, this potential move towards a sale could be a great thing for Leaf and Raptors fans.
