Toronto Maple Leafs Keep David Nonis

According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the Maple Leafs are expected to announce that Dave Nonis will be extended through 2011-12.

I was worried when I heard about him being on the shortlist for the GM job in Tampa, but it looks like he’ll be staying put for the foreseeable future.

Nonis has so much influence on the direction of the franchise and the decisions made by Brian Burke, it would have been sad to see him leave.

Thankfully, that isn’t happening. Nonis has pulled himself from the Lightning GM sweepstakes. As assistant GM and vice president of hockey operations, Nonis will stay on board and continue to partner with Burke in all decisions regarding the team.

Dave Nonis definitely has the ability to run his own team and would have been great as the GM for the Lightning, or any team for that matter.

But a selfish side of me wanted him to stay with the Leafs and see this thing through. He’ll be integral in continuing to build this team and take it in the right direction.
