According to Andy Strickland of Truehockey.com, the Toronto Maple Leafs and forward Mike Brown are close to agreeing on a contract extension. Strickland believes its a three year deal worth $875,000 per year. That would be a pay increase of about $338,000 over the next few years.

Brown has become a fan favorite in Toronto as he was recently acquired in the offseason during the NHL entry draft in exchange for a fifth round pick. Brown has done a good job this year blocking shots, playing with speed, and separating the opposition from the puck. In 22 games this year, Brown has a goal and an assist along with an even plus/minus rating.

Brown is currently out of the lineup with a hand injury due to a shot he blocked in a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is eyeing a return sometime next week.
