Tomas Kaberle Headed To Tampa Bay Lightning?

With the Tomas Kaberle trade deadline less than two hours away, the Tampa Bay Lightning are said to be the team with the most interest in the talented veteran defenseman.

Numerous Tweets are suggesting that Tampa Bay General Manager Steve Yzerman is offering a package of players and prospects that includes Ryan Malone.

Malone's contract runs through 2014 and carries a cap-hit of $4.5 million per, while Kaberle has one year left at $4.25 million. In seven NHL seasons, Malone has scored 20 or more goals five times, and he is capable of 45-50 points a season.

Known as a tough/grinding forward, Malone would be a nice addition to the Leafs lineup, as he could represent the answer to Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke's prayers for a top-six forward.

Tampa has a number of prospects that may interest Burke, including Brett Connolly (taken sixth overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft), Carter Ashton (taken 29th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft), and Dana Tyrell (taken 47th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft).
