It has been confirmed that the Edmonton Oilers will have the right to choose between top prospects Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin. Either one of those players may become cornerstones of the franchise for years to come. The Boston Bruins must be thanking the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight as they will get a shot at one of these players as well with the second overall selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. There is no doubt that first round picks are expected to make a large contribution to the future of their respective franchises. However there are seven rounds in the current Entry Draft format. The key to being a consistently successful franchise in the NHL is not only being able to draft well in the top five picks. It is also drafting well in the later rounds and finding serviceable NHL players.
