St. Louis Blues center Steve Ott will undergo hamstring surgery next week after being injured in Saturday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Ott Out for Three Months with Hamstring InjurySunday, Dec. 6Chris Pinkert of the Blues' official website provided the news on Ott, who was hurt when he awkwardly crashed into the boards in the first period Saturday after being checked by Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf.

Ott is a scrappy forward who was formerly a captain of the Buffalo Sabres. The 33-year-old veteran has a relentless, aggressive style of play and leadership intangibles that will be missed.

The Blues currently have the NHL's second-ranked penalty killing unit with an 86.3 percent success rate. Their ability to defend the opposition's power play may well suffer in Ott's absence.
