It was not the ordinary Saturday night in St. Louis for some folks. Pregame ceremonies were held in honor of Hall of Famer Brett Hull.
The great No. 16 was among fans sporting his trademark smile. It was the man that as a kid made me want to play hockey, the same guy that I watched score huge goals for the St. Louis Blues consistently.
Brett Hull was, for me the and my friends, the player that changed the game with the "Black-n-Gold" EASTON stick.
When the team didn't make sense at times, Hull made us smile with him. He showed us that even playing at professional levels there is still time to have fun and enjoy what we do. Whether it be a hockey player or just being a fan that feels empowered by the game.
So when I saw him unveil the immortal statue of himself, I just felt excited like when he scored so many goals for the team. It was like adding the missing puzzle piece that is needed to complete the picture.
After the ceremonies. I was impatiently waiting for the drop of the puck. I remember the commercials seemed endless and entirely to long. It seemed as though I was time-warped ...
